How do I care for my extensions properly?
There is a lot that can go wrong when caring for extensions. Care routines you are used to from your natural hair can even be harmful to hair extensions and hair thickening. For your high-quality Rubin hair extensions, the right care is especially important, because human hair is a delicate raw material.
Only with suitable care products can you look after your extensions properly and keep them beautiful and healthy-looking for the long term. That is exactly why our experts developed the Rubin Extensions care range. Every product in the range has a pH value perfectly matched to hair extensions.
Besides the right care products, the best care for extensions of course also includes a "how to". We have put together a guide for you so that you don't make any mistakes when caring for your extensions.

Hair Extension Care Guide
To prepare your extensions for care, gently detangle the hair with your hands, then brush it through.
Especially if you plan to apply tape-in extensions or bondings, it is best to wash your hair before applying them, and afterwards to wash it only in the shower. There, the water running down has a combing effect. Make sure the water pressure isn't too strong; a medium setting is ideal for caring for extensions.
Put a little shampoo on your fingers and work it into the hair with downward combing movements. Circular movements can tangle the hair and the extensions again.
After washing, gently pat the hair dry and avoid rubbing. After washing, you can use our Rubin Conditioner to care for your extensions and make them wonderfully easy to comb.
What is the best care to keep extensions beautiful for a long time?
Your extensions need special protection from hair damage, so please keep the following in mind: when caring for your extensions, avoid products containing alcohol or fragrance. The same goes for volumizing, smoothing and anti-dandruff shampoos. If you want to perm your human hair extensions, use only gentle perm products.
Tips for coloring extensions
You can color and style your extensions. Please note, however, that the hair has already been lightened, so it should not be bleached any further.
The best way to color your new hair is with a toner. This lets you reach the shade you want gently and effectively. Toning is much gentler than permanent coloring, because a toner contains no ammonia and only natural ingredients. This minimizes the risk of damaging the hair. The color particles in these products do not penetrate the hair; instead, they wrap around it like a coat. Toners carry a positive electrical charge, which is attracted by the hair's negative charge. This effect is even stronger on wet hair, so you should tone the hair after washing it. Remember that the color will be more intense if the hair's starting color is on the light side. With toners, you should only darken the hair by two to three shades. We do not recommend lightening.
The hair of the Rubin Premium Line still has its natural cuticle. You can color it just like your own hair and match the shade perfectly. Pay attention to the instructions of the products you plan to use. To make sure you get the result you want, treat a small strand first. This shows you how much processing time you need for a perfect result. You can then color the rest of the extensions. Keep in mind, though, that every treatment puts stress on the hair structure. It is best to keep such treatments to a minimum so that you can enjoy your human hair extensions for a long time.

Hair Care Tips
Lengthened and thickened hair needs special, conscientious care. Because extensions are no longer nourished from the hair root, correct and regular care has a strong influence on how they look and how healthy they appear. That is why we have put together some tips for daily hair care and for washing your hair correctly.
Daily extension care
Comb through the hair once or twice a day with an extensions brush. It is best to start at the bottom and work your way up. Important: with your free hand, hold the hair slightly above the section you are brushing, to minimize strain on the roots and the attachment points.
Moisture care for hair extensions
For the ends, you should definitely use a hair-ends fluid. An anti-frizz product is also essential. It helps prevent breakage and should be part of your daily care routine.
Washing hair extensions
As a general rule, never wash your hair upside down. For hair 50 cm (20 in) or longer, we recommend washing it once or twice a week. Comb the hair through thoroughly with a special extensions brush and remove any tangles before washing (washing only makes them bigger). Clean the scalp thoroughly with a mild shampoo. Don't rub the hair, or it will tangle; rinse the shampoo out well. Use conditioner, softening rinse or balm only on the ends. Keep washing as short as possible, since too much water dries out the extensions.
How do I blow-dry hair extensions correctly?
After washing, blow-dry the attachment points first. Then dry the scalp and ends with a cool to lukewarm setting. While drying, gently work out any tangles with your hands. Once the hair is slightly dry, it is easier to brush than when wet. Always set your hair dryer to the lowest setting to keep damaging heat to a minimum.
How do I store hair extensions correctly?
To enjoy your extensions for as long as possible, never store them while they are still wet or damp. Don't store them in direct sunlight; keep them in a dark, dry place instead. Our Extensions Bag is ideal for this. It protects your extensions reliably and is easy to take with you when you travel.
Attention! Avoid these common mistakes to preserve the high quality of your extensions
Avoid contact with chlorinated water and salt water, as they damage the hair. When you go to the pool or the beach, it is best to wear your hair in a bun. The same applies when you take a bath at home: be careful with bath oils! A shower cap is also a worthwhile investment.
Some ingredients in hair care products can be harmful to extensions. Depending on the type of extensions, these substances can cause more or less damage: products containing sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and chemical products such as perm solution, developers and bleaching powder. Oils and silicones, as well as alcohol, should also be avoided.
Finally, here are some general tips every extensions wearer should know:
- Don't wash your hair with water that is too hot.
- Apply only alcohol-free shampoo, diluted with water, to the attachment points.
- Apply extensions care products only to the lengths and ends, not to the attachment points.
- Never rub long hair; only squeeze it gently, otherwise it will tangle.
- After every wash, place your hair to one side and apply a mask from the neck down, i.e. only to the lengths.
- Wrap a terry towel around your hair and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Apply hair-ends fluids and repair treatments, and comb through well with an extensions brush.
- As described above, blow-dry the attachment points first after washing. Then dry the scalp and ends with a cool to lukewarm setting.
You are probably thinking that's quite a lot of rules for an extensions wearer to follow. Don't worry, they will soon become second nature. After just a few washes you will be a true extensions pro and know exactly what matters when caring for your long hair.
